This course presents an overview of the major intellectual movements and ideas in European  thought from Antiquity to the 21st century. The course also contains an introduction to linguistics and presents influential approaches to linguistic analysis and critical ideas concerning the nature of language and its relation to thought.

The course is intended for students in Danish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Latin, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. It is a foundation course for further study in literature, linguistics and related subjects in the foreign languages.
