Internationally the creative industries have been pointed out as a potential source of significant economic growth. The market for art and entertainment is increasingly international and although the recent changes in distribution have resulted in a disruption in business models.
In this course we will study the so called creative or cultural industries as we explore the concept of creativity, its organization and management as well as marketing. This will be done both throught the study on what has been written about the creative industries but also through case studies where guests from creative industries in Iceland will be invited to speak about their work.
Students will gain an understanding of what the cultural- and creative industries are. How they are defined, what sets them apart from other industrial sectors and how they operate in a wider societal and economic context.
